GRASG Community Service Projects

Paws with a Cause (Ongoing monthly)

Paws With a Cause trains service dogs to assist people who have physical disabilities or mobility issues.  Dogs are outfitted with a uniform vest to identify their work status.  GRASG members have helped monthly to cut and sew vests for the dogs.

If you are interested in helping:

  • Contact Pam Smith to volunteer for the next date and location.  Space is limited to several workers at a time.   (phone:  901-491-2226) or (email:  pamsmith268@gmail.com)

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (Ongoing) - Project Requirements

Since 2023, GRASG has had an ongoing partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SIHL), to  provide quilts and pillow cases to go with the SIHL twin beds for needy children who have no bed.  Up to March 2024, GRASG members have donated numerous quilts, blankets and pillowcases.

If you want to help:

  • WHAT:  Make a new quilt
  • SIZE:  at least 60" x 72" (or larger)
  • WHEN:  BRING finished quilts, quilt tops and pillowcases to Pam Smith in time for one of the two annual donation dates. Dates vary in Spring & late Fall.
  • Questions:   Contact Pam  (phone:  901-491-2226) or (email:  pamsmith268@gmail.com)

Socks Drive (Ongoing annually)

The Sock Drive for needy children is an annual event that runs from the March meeting through the June meeting.  In June, socks are donated to In-the-Image for their annual Back-to-School Shoe Giveaway.  In 2023, we donated 485 Pair of socks.  In 2024 we exceeded the goal of 500 pair.

Wrapping Gifts for Santa Claus Girls (Ongoing annually)

Late in the fall, several women from GRASG join the community in wrapping gifts for Santa Claus Girls.  Stay tuned for announcements at chapter meetings for date and time.

Picnic Projects for Safe Haven

The GRASG Annual Picnic once again saw members sewing for a cause with friends.  They made fleece blankets and tote bags for Safe Haven Ministries.  This great article was posted on Facebook after the donation was delivered.  Little do they know, we have more bags for them in the works.
